The Brevard Zoo obtained permits and undertook a project to translocate a faimily of four Florida scrub jays from a location that was experiencing increased development to conservation lands managed by the Environmentally Endangered Lands Program of Brevard County. After seven months of preparation, the family of jays were captured and moved on December 16, 2008.

This family of jays occupied properies adjacent to Holy Trinity Academy. The Holy Trinity faculty, staff and students spent many hours feeding and observing these jays Michelle Smurl, Director of Animal Programs at the Brevard Zoo, supervised the feeding and preparations.
